I have the similar set up as your sample - scriptManager in master page and scriptManagerProxy in default.aspx. Under the scriptManagerProxy I called a web service, but somehow the web service cannot be invoked. It works if I do not use the master page.

iam using Net.2005.I have created ajax enabled website.i have master page in which i have script manager.I havedifferent page in which iam trying to use ajax extension like updatepanel and update progress control.when i debug i got error saying ineed script manager.when i put script manager in the page i got error saying i need only one instance of script manager.i have used proxy script manage was working fine.but i have reinstalled my operating system.now even if i put script manager on content page.it is giving same problem.Could you please helphow to over come with this problem.

EnableScriptGlobalization="true" and EnableScriptLocalization="true" and even EnablePartialRendering ="true" in my master page.

He used a javascript function to call the 'simpleservice' function and then he used another javascript to display the results. It was all done by hardcoded javascripts to me. So what is the point of using Ajax stuff here ? Can anyone explain ? Plus, even placing only one scriptmanager in the masterpage, he still has to place a scripmanagerproxy control in every webpage in order to reference it; thus, I don't see any less coding here. It is still the same number of ajax controls but the only difference is the names. Same amount of coding to me.
