I suggest doing a close comparison between the sample and your code to see what is differnet of omitted.

However, when I add the update panel onto the page, I don't see the container like your example shows, its just a hollow box.

Please modify the associated registration that is causing the ambiguity and pick and new tag prefix".

Naturally, I attempted to rename the control.  It didn't change the error...

I am converting a legacy site that has a single .aspx page and all content loaded into a Placeholder from .ascx controls. The UserControls include full page content with GridViews, detail forms, etc. I was hoping to just wrap the main page's PH in an UpdatePanel and get on with life, but clicks from loaded UCs requesting another UC be loaded into the same PH seem problematic... any suggestions? There are a lot of controls so rewriting is a last resort...
