I am trying to go through this tutorial on Visual Studio 2008 Professional and with the Nortwind database installed on SQL Server 2008.

in the Allproducts.cs the 'using NorthwindTableAdapters;' is indicatign that the 'namespace' cannot be found - What exactly is this 'using NorthwindTableAdapters;' meant to refer to

But have a question: where did the "using NorthwindTableAdapters;" comes from? where is that declared?

After many hours of trying I came to the following conclusions. I am creating a web application not a web site. Didn't seem to work with the App_Code folder so I created a new folder called DataSets. I then recreated the dataset and was then able to reference it as follows

using Reporting.DataSets.dsReportingTableAdapters;

The key was to build the solution first before adding the above line. Note that it is SolutionName.Folder.TableAdapterName

I have a question: what would happen when there is a change in the column name, or a column is added / deleted from an underlying table, that the data access layer uses? Wouldn't this cause issues with rewriting the object whose properties map to the columns?

I encountered a problem when I was creating a project. I used the links above and downloaded all of the material. I opened MVWD 2010 Express and created a new webpage.

I copied everything from Part 1 and Part 2 into the project and attempted to build it. I recieved an error saying System.Linq is not a valid reference.

I found the error. In your web.config file you have a line:

<compliation debug = true />

it should be <compilation debug="true" targetFramework="4.0" />

But when I tried to do on XP, I got NorthwindTableAdapters under my projectname as follows with VB - Imports myProject.NorthwindTableAdapters - So, why is Vista discriminated?

One more thing is that DataSet under App_Code folder seems to have a problem Public Sub New() as well known. Outside App_Code folder, DataSet is working well.
