For instance I have to click on "Web" under Visual C# in order to find ASP.NET MVC 2 Empty Web Application.

Then when it loads I am missing a lot of the folders and files in my Solution Explorer.

It's the same text in the MVC 2 tutorial and tells the user to create an MVC 2 project instead of a webforms project.

Your directories should then match the ones in the tutorial. Good think I just happened to do part of the MVS 2 tutorial or wouldn't have recognized it.

For instance they author simply states “replace the Style.css file .. with the CSS classes and associated image files…” with no instructions on what changes he is making. If you are going to restyle in a tutorial then show what you are doing. Later the author shows the database tables and fields, but does not mention or show what the field types are. These omissions force you to download the project ZIP to get the CSS and database files. Later when creating an EntityDataSource to view products the QueryStringParameter’s QueryStringField is listed as “Category ID”, when it should have no spaces. Running the page yields all products with no errors. Only when you start clicking on different categories do you notice the products are not being filtered. All these are not big issues, but when trying to focus on learning a subject it is irritation to have to overcome omissions and typos.

I love the idea of step by step, it helps me to learn but not when its broken! Even if I follow the video; there is some sitemaster code copied from somewhere that isnt the same as the end project source code so I can't copy that.

When you come to release the next version of this with bug fixes(!!) I would be very happy to run through it first step by step to see if it works before its published.

After all as it stands now; I've just wasted my time and no doubt other people have to and I'm no step further.

Joe, looks like you forgot to include some steps b/c just adding the css and image files to the styles directory does not produce the results you show above.

As the introduction states theis tutroial is for WEBFORMS so the reference to an MVC application is a typo.

The File->New TEXT instruction isin fact wrong, the IMAGE shows the correct selection though.

Sorry that took you a whole day to "figure it out".

The "Error 1 Could not load type" error happens when you don't Cever COMPILE before you try to run your project. Programming in C# means you have to compile your code before you run.
